Why a Music and Health App - and Why Now?

Digital health apps are booming—projected to reach $17.5B globally by 2030. But most music wellness tools still rely on passive listening or generalized relaxation techniques. Wellplayed offers something different. It blends decades of certified music therapy expertise into a guided, exercise-based platform—helping users engage with music actively to reduce stress, build emotional resilience, and enhance recovery. Rather than aiming to replace therapy or compete with general-purpose wellness apps, Wellplayed fills a critical gap: a focused, scalable, clinically-informed tool that complements care pathways, workplace wellness, and digital health ecosystems.

Workplace Professionals

Burnout rates in healthcare and other high-pressure sectors reach up to 46%, with many employees feeling emotionally exhausted and unsupported.

Post-Secondary Students

More than 1 in 3 Canadian students report formal mental health diagnoses, and nearly 50% face financial or access barriers to care.

Patients in Recovery

Individuals in long-term care or rehabilitation often experience low mood, isolation, and a loss of motivation between therapy sessions.

From the Therapy Room to the Digital World

JB Music Therapy was founded in 1991 by Jennifer Buchanan and delivers over 20,000+ music therapy sessions annually and educates thousands about the role of music and health throughout Canada and beyond. We’ve worked with clients from infancy to elder care, from grief to recovery.

The Wellplayed App reflects our next chapter—a way to bring music-based healing tools to more people, wherever they are.

At JBMT, technology doesn’t replace human connection—it enhances it.
